No one is more disappointed than Mayor Mary Sjostrom, at the results of the Multi-Centre referendum. On Saturday, 57% voted against the project’s continuation. Mayor Sjostrom had championed the project, and says she’s very disappointed it won’t be built. Sjostrom points to the recession of 2008 as the main factor in the project’s demise. She says the Multi-Centre had been expecting provincial and federal money, which dried up when the project was trying to get off the ground. Sjostrom says the community still needs a new arena, and space for the performing arts, so she will be looking for future opportunities to make it a reality.
